JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position Title:                    Instructional Assistant I

 

Responsible To:                Principal

 

Basic Function:                 Work with and under the supervision of the regularly employed

                                          teacher.  He/she shall assist in directing the learning

                                          experiences of pupils in all activities sponsored by the school

                                          and follow the guidelines for enforcing all board and school

                                          policies.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

  1. Work with small groups of students to reinforce learning.

 

  1. Perform clerical duties similar to those of a regular teacher.

 

  1. Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work.

 

  1. Set up and use audio-visual media.

 

  1. Assist teacher with instructional and non-instructional classroom duties.

 

  1. Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work.

 

  1. Assist in drill work.

 

  1. Assist small groups of students in the classroom and other instructional settings.

 

  1. Prepare, perform, and supervise with regular classroom teacher for all classroom activities.

 

  1. Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.

 

  1. Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.

 

  1. Work as a team member under the supervisor of the regularly employed teacher.

 

  1. Check and record student’s daily attendance and academic progress, but confer with regular teacher before cumulative grades are recorded.

 

  1. Participate in In-Service Training programs and any scheduled faculty activities as directed.

 

  1. Perform administration of medication and other health services such as tube feeding and catheterization, as instructed by a health professional.

 

  1. Perform such other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.

 

Ability To:

 

Communicate effectively orally and in writing

Use hands for simple grasping and fine motor manipulations. 

Sit, bend, squat, crawl, climb, and reach within the scope of working with students.

Lift, carry, push or pull light weights, up to 50 pounds.    

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

High school diploma or GED

48 college/university hours OR passing score on Kentucky Para-educator Exam

 

 

 

Terms of Employment:

               

Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.

 

Evaluation:

 

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for classified personnel.
